Previously, consumers were forced to accept the fact that, sooner or later, some of their DVDs would no longer be playable. For the first time, Audials One and Audials Tunebite now provide the opportunity to archive protected films on DVD by legally re-recording them as private copies. In most countries, cracking the DVD content scrambling system (CSS) is prohibited. The Audials software, however, provides a legal alternative in Generation 8: a legally purchased DVD can be re-recorded while it is being played using the Audials software, without breaking any laws. If required, the film can also be immediately converted to the right screen resolution and correct file format for all mobile devices. During recording, only DVD content being played is accessed. This is permitted by the copyright protection.

Audials as an entertainment centre

In Version 8, developers pushed ahead with the further simplification of controls for the constantly growing range of functions. Music, podcasts and videos can all be played using the improved Audials software player. Run Windows XP inside Windows 7

By now you've more than likely found a few programs that just won't work with Windows 7. No matter what compatibility settings you try, your programs will not run. Well fortunately, Microsoft has done something about this problem above and beyond their often useless tips and knowledgebase support articles, they have released a Windows XP Mode Virtual Machine add on for Windows 7 - which means it's free of cost.

Using Microsoft (VMware) Virtual Machine technologies, you can download and run a Windows XP session from within Windows 7. Essentially, a virtual machine is identical to installing an operating system on a PC. A virtual machine is a file that contains the entire computer hardware, bios, settings and operating system.

Microsoft states:
'Windows 7 has several built-in tools to help with program compatibility and Windows XP programs should be installed directly on Windows 7. Windows XP Mode runs some older productivity programs that might not run on Windows 7. Visit the Windows 7 Compatibility Center to find software that works with Windows 7' 

The process is simple to install Windows XP - keep in mind you will need quite a bit of free hard drive space, as the virtual machine files of Windows XP will need it. Additionally as you install and add applications to your Windows XP virtual machine, hard drive space will continue to be used. Count on at least 1Gb to install and run, and maybe 5-10Gb as it's requirements increase down the road.

Solar Powered Keyboard Without Solar!

The New Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 is a tad sneaky to be honest - but in a good way! The term solar being the word in question for this product. For starters, one would think that a 2.4Ghz wireless full size 'solar powered' keyboard would be great for laptops, and not for the PC, - well think again!

Logitech has developed an extremely sensitive solar powering method to allow the K750 to be powered with normal everyday ambient light (normal office lighting, home lighting) No need to bring the lamp and awkwardly position it near the solar cells for power.

Getting the 'non technical' details out of the way, the Logitech K750 MSRP is $79.99 USD, and it is available now, for the 2010 holiday season at every major retailer, and yes they packaging is even Green conscious! Not to be forgotten, is the fact that is comes with 3 year warranty.

The Logitech Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 is a solid keyboard, with a very quiet and comfortable design which is sort of similar to Apple designs - all smooth edges and clean colouring.

The keys are very nice to the touch and the keyboard boasts a sleek and thin design. It has keyboard riser tabs, and even a FN key for laptop functions!

The K750 does a great job of operating in regular ambient lighting. Logitech says it can even remain charged for 3 months in complete darkness!

Installation was a snap with the 'Unifying Receiver' dongle (more on Unifying below) The driver automatically downloaded and installed (it prompts you to download or not) onto my test system which was a Thinkpad T500, with Windows 7. Windows XP did not automatically download the driver, however the keyboard worked without it. The proper driver required a visit to Logitech's website (the link is printed on the inside of the box as well) You can't miss it. The driver includes a desktop widget 'solar application'

Once the driver download was completed and installed, a new 'Logitech Solar App' application is available. It tells you everything you need to know to keep the keyboard charged and ready; from low-power warnings, tips on how to boost your power reserves, to informing you of how much power your lights are actually providing.

The Solar App shows you your current status and whether your power reserve is increasing or decreasing—so you’ll know when your keyboard isn’t getting enough light. The K750 also saves power using a solar charger to always ensure you have reserve power. The built in LUX meter lets you know how much power your light source is providing at any time. Combine this with the lux suggestions for your current status and you’ll have all the info you need to keep typing to your heart’s content.
